On any Sunday one might notice yachts and other small sailing vessels leaving Gouvia Marina for a day of pleasure sailing. Chances are that many are local Corfiots bound for the mainland village of Sayada about three hours away. It is a year round tradition for sailors and their fortunate passengers to make the trip to the small port town of Sayada - not only for the joy of a morning and afternoon at sea, but especially for a seafood lunch on offer from the many fish tavernas lining the small port.
One sunny September morning we made the journey abord the sailing yacht 'Winds of Change' skippered by Jan Goes, and accompanied by his wife Antoinette, their Dutch friend Corey who was on holiday in Corfu from the Netherlands, a German couple, Bernhard and Briggitte, and a Greek companion, Katerina. We left Gouvia Marina on a glorious sunny morning and headed across the straight toward Sayada for what was to be a memorable day and an exquisite lunch.

Once ashore we all relaxed at a table in the sunshine for a beautiful lunch of Grilled Prawns, tzatziki, salad and wine.
In late afternoon we boarded 'Winds of Change' for a sunset sail back to Corfu and anchored in Gouvia Marina just as the light was fading on a glorious day.
