The Latin Rhythms of Quinteto Criollo
Take Centre Stage 5 Nights a Week
at Popular Gouvia Tex-Mex Restaurant
More Corfu publications:
For years the owners of Poco Loco have been satisfying customers with the fesative and flavourful foods of Mexico, the American Southwest and other Latin American countries. Each year they make a pilgrimage to the region to collect recipes as well as artifacts of the local decor to use in their venerable and popular Gouvia restaurant, but this year they have added yet another aspect of Latin culture: the spicy sounds of Quinteto Criollo from Santa Clara, Cuba, an ensemble playing traditional Cuban music. What's more, Conjuto Folklorico Nacional de Cuba, a troupe of Cuban dancers from Havana (Balodia, Stoker, Tapia and Yulien),
joins the band to perform as well as instruct and encourage the audience to dance the night away along with them. The mood is very festive!

Quinteto Criollo is fronted by Ernestina Trimino Velaso, recognised as one of Cuba's top three female vocalists in her genre. The other members of the band include Juan Carlos Campos Pineiro, Alberto Arteaga Etutierrez, Pedro Perez Quintero, Mario Elias Montsalvon Echevarria and Mario Manuel Etutierrez Dias. The band came to Gouvia at the invitation of Poco Loco on 3 January, 2009 and is playing an extended engagement until 3 March. Their specific styles of music include guaracha, solero, guajira, and criolla, as well as opera...

Quinteto Criollo performs at Poco Loco Wednesday through Sunday on their current engagement, and the band hopes to return to Corfu (and Poco Loco) during the upcoming summer season for a return engagement.
